Eighty-nine United Colleagues Recognized by Peers for Exemplary Performance
Honoring our outstanding colleagues at United and celebrating our pride and spirit was the inspiration for our Focus on 5 President's Annual Award. For the first quarter of 2010, 89 awards were granted.
Employees recognized each other for everything from assisting a station in achieving zero OSHA recordable injuries last year, to developing a network planning component and revenue sharing model for our trans-Atlantic venture with Air Canada, Continental and Lufthansa, to working with the airport authority in Las Vegas on improving the parking situation for our employees who commute in a way that is cost neutral.
In all, 818 online nominations were received from both domestic and international locations, demonstrating that when we are focused and effective in our work, our colleagues notice. Over the past few days, we recognized winners in formal presentations and individual recognition events all over the world. For award winners at Chicago Reservations, the Operations Center (OPC) and headquarters, we held a President's Award Celebration Breakfast at OPC yesterday attended by leaders throughout the company, as well as John Tague, President-United Airlines.
Describing the OPC event as "a great example of hospitality," 42-year United employee Sara Dornacker, now in Customer Relations, shared, "This event was the most honorable and meaningful during my career! To listen to the stories of achievement of my fellow employees, with tenure ranging from one to fifty years, and being recognized by our leaders for nominations received from our peers, is a powerfully inspiring experience!"
"What an inspiring event!" said Kristine Semanic, senior staff representative-Government, Military and Postal Sales. "I'm proud to work at United and look forward to our exciting future!"
This peer-to-peer program recognizes top performers and is aligned to our Focus on 5 performance imperatives, plus safety, and our Guiding Principles.
Online nominations for the next period can be submitted through June 30, 2010, and winners are selected and announced in the subsequent quarter. At year's end, 100 of the winners will be selected to attend the President's Award celebration.
